October

October. Where did that go? It just seemed to be here for a day or two and it was gone! I think we had some rain and then more rain! I have had a few memories pop up on social media of images taken last year. In those images there were heavy frosts and spiders webs! We have had a few colder mornings. Nothing like that! Without the cold weather the heating bills are not quite so bad? My wife however doesn’t agree ! I am still in shorts, with wellies though! But enough rain!

During October my wife and i took my Mum on a Norwegian cruise. It is the second time that we have done this with her. We were however unlucky with the weather! It seems a familiar thing writing my blogs ? The weather! I do look forward someday to writing and not talking about the rain! May be a long time yet !

The first port was cancelled due to the high winds! After a recent incident involving a cruise ship and high winds the Captain decided it was too dangerous to attempt a docking ! Another night at sea ! Despite some rough seas the ship rode them well! We did not manage to spill one drink or have food dropped down our posh clothes!

The other ports of call were wet also. We did managed to get off the ship and despite getting wet. We were able to enjoy looking around the local towns and villages. The highlight for me was the Port of Alesund. We had an overnight stay here due the first port cancellation. The captain announced that it was highly likely the Northern light would be visible overnight! The down side was that it would be around 0300 in the morning! I don’t mind getting up early. After attempting to quietly leave the cabin and heading to the upper decks. I was surprised to see so many people had the same idea!

A lot more than i thought would be there! Some in posh clothes. Heading back to their cabins after a partying ! Some in nightwear and dressing gowns! All With one hope. See the Northern lights! Well we were lucky. We had a lovely show. However ! Not visible with the naked eye! Ok with a phone or camera! I did not have a tripod ,so not the easiest task! A nearby towel helped to steady my camera as i attempted some longer exposures! I was however generally pleased with the results! That is now two out of two seeing the Northern lights!

I was very please once again to do a task for the Caravan and Motorhome Club. I was commissioned to take photos of various locations around Newport and Cardiff in Wales! I really enjoyed Cardiff. Newport? I did not find it a very friendly town. Some nice old landmarks. I felt i needed to keep a good hold of my camera kit ! Cardiff was very lovely! I would have liked some blue skies! It was not to be! My images hopefully to be displayed in local campsites. Caerphilly Castle was beautiful !

A friend of ours asked if i would take some photos of their elderly Staffy. We chose one of my favourite locations Mudeford harbour. we were lucky with the weather and managed to combine a picnic and take some lovely photos. They have chosen a number of prints and these will be a lovely memory in the future.

With October come Fungi season! A time to try and experiment with Macro photography! It does mean however getting down low and wet knees! That’s not to bad! It is the getting back up!

My 2024/25 calendar has been designed. It has been printed and copies have started to be posted to some new customers and some previous customers. I really enjoy bringing some of my images into peoples homes. It really is so pleasing to know my images are good enough to adorn people homes. It has very hard to chose which images i should include! I try and keep to the seasons and images to suit !

Thank you to those who have ordered my calendar. It is not too late !
